Research

What we read, and what it changed.

We are not researchers. We did read the long-distance and habit literature before shipping the mechanics, and where it disagreed with what would have been more addictive, we went with the literature.

HABIT LOSS AVERSION

Streaks forgive you twice a month

Punishing a missed day is effective at driving return visits and corrosive when the habit is a relationship. Freezes spend themselves silently and the copy never implies fault.

IDEALISATION CUTS BOTH WAYS

Prompts ask for specifics, not superlatives

Couples apart report both higher satisfaction and rougher reunions. Questions push toward concrete observation - what you noticed today - rather than grand declarations.

CERTAINTY BEATS PROXIMITY

The Love Clock counts up, not down

Knowing when the distance ends matters more than how far it is. We show elapsed time together and let couples add their own next date rather than a manufactured countdown.

SCARCITY DRIVES ATTENTION

Six boosts a day, for everyone

Unlimited praise is noise. A hard cap forces a choice, and the choosing is where the noticing happens. This is also why energy is not for sale.

We do not cite precise survival percentages for long-distance couples.
The numbers that circulate trace back to small, old, narrow samples.
