Fixed call times and daily video chats do not survive a training rotation, a deployment, or a duty station with patchy comms. KTL does not need a set schedule to work.

Most long-distance advice assumes you can both find twenty free minutes at a time you agree on in advance. Duty schedules, time-zone-crossing deployments and comms blackouts make that assumption fall apart fast, and a ritual that depends on it collapses the first time it is broken.

Nothing in KTL needs an appointment. Send a boost before you lose signal and it is there the moment they are back online, whether that is four hours or four weeks later. Talking Hearts holds your answer sealed for as long as it takes them to reply.
Bad weeks covered
Streak freezes cover blackout periods.
A missed day should cost almost nothing, and a comms blackout is exactly the kind of missed day that should not wipe out months of showing up. Freezes exist for it: earn one every 7 days, bank up to three, and a gap in contact gets quietly covered instead of resetting the flame.
Privacy
No location tracking, ever.
The shared map has no GPS. It never reads your device location. Fog only lifts where one of you deliberately taps to pin a memory, and the town or country attached to that pin comes from where you tapped, never from where your phone actually is.

Before comms go dark
Send a boost with a reason attached. It is waiting whenever the connection comes back, however long that takes.

Answer the day's Talking Hearts question on your phone. It stays sealed until they answer theirs too.

Does KTL work for long-distance couples?
That is who it is built around. The whole loop is asynchronous, so nothing needs you both awake at the same time. Boosts wait for them, Talking Hearts holds your answer until they reply, streak freezes cover the days that get away from you, and both phones stay in sync without refreshing.
Do I need to give KTL my location?
No. The map has no GPS and no location tracking. Fog only lifts where one of you deliberately taps to pin a memory, and the town and country are looked up from the spot you tapped. Never from your device.
What happens if we break our streak?
You lose the flame and nothing else. No XP, no levels, no trophies. If you have a streak freeze banked it is spent automatically to cover the missed day, and you only reset once you are out of freezes.
Is there an app to download?
KTL runs in your browser and installs to your home screen as an app, so there is no app store step. Once installed it opens full screen and can send you push notifications.
What if there is no signal for weeks at a time?
Nothing in KTL expires while you are offline. Boosts, chest openings and Talking Hearts answers all sit waiting. Reconnect after a blackout stretch and everything is exactly where it was left.
Does KTL share our location or deployment details with anyone?
No. There is no GPS and no location tracking anywhere in the app. The map only shows what you deliberately pin, and it is visible only to the two of you.
Will a training exercise or deployment break our streak?
A streak freeze covers exactly this. You earn one every 7 days and can bank up to three, so a stretch with no contact gets covered instead of wiping out months of showing up.
