Long distance
Built for couples counting down to term breaks, not date night
Different campuses, different timetables, and a term that will not move for either of you. KTL runs on whatever gaps you actually have, not the ones a normal couple app assumes.
The problem
Why campus schedules break most couple apps.
Lectures, labs, shifts, and a timetable that is different every single day make βlet's call at 8β a promise you will both eventually break. Most couple apps assume a shared evening. College rarely gives you one.
No schedule needed
Everything works async, between lectures and across time zones.
Send a boost on the walk between buildings. Answer Talking Hearts in the ten minutes before a lecture starts. None of it needs your partner to be free at the same moment, which matters just as much for a year abroad as it does across a single time zone.
Real life
Streak freezes for exam weeks and travel days.
A revision week or a long journey home should not undo a term's worth of showing up. Freezes exist for exactly that: earn one every 7 days, bank up to three, and a quiet stretch gets covered instead of punished.
Budget
No cost, which matters on a student budget.
KTL is free for both of you, full stop. No trial, no card, no locked tier. One less subscription to justify at the end of the month.
A week apart
What the first week of term looks like.
Between lectures
Send a boost with a reason attached. It lands whenever they next check their phone, not on a schedule.
In the library, before it closes
Answer the day's Talking Hearts question. Yours stays sealed until they answer theirs too.
On the train home for a visit
Open the chest that has been waiting. Sometimes XP, sometimes a task only you can see.
After a weekend visit
Pin where you actually went. The fog lifts on both maps, and the term stops feeling like one long gap.
Questions
What comes up first.
Does KTL work for long-distance couples?
That is who it is built around. The whole loop is asynchronous, so nothing needs you both awake at the same time. Boosts wait for them, Talking Hearts holds your answer until they reply, streak freezes cover the days that get away from you, and both phones stay in sync without refreshing.
Do I need to give KTL my location?
No. The map has no GPS and no location tracking. Fog only lifts where one of you deliberately taps to pin a memory, and the town and country are looked up from the spot you tapped. Never from your device.
What happens if we break our streak?
You lose the flame and nothing else. No XP, no levels, no trophies. If you have a streak freeze banked it is spent automatically to cover the missed day, and you only reset once you are out of freezes.
Is there an app to download?
KTL runs in your browser and installs to your home screen as an app, so there is no app store step. Once installed it opens full screen and can send you push notifications.
We are a few time zones apart on a year abroad. Does that matter?
Not for how KTL works. Every part of the loop is asynchronous, so a nine-hour gap between campuses works the same as a nine-mile one.
Does it cost anything? We are on a student budget.
No. Every feature is free for both of you, no trial and no card. If that ever changes it will be for cosmetics, not the relationship features.
What happens during exam season, when neither of us has time?
A streak freeze covers it. You earn one every 7 days and can bank three, so a quiet exam week does not wipe out a streak you built up over a term.
