On purpose
Why there is no GPS, and why that is the point.
The map never reads your device location. Fog only lifts where one of you deliberately taps to pin a memory, and the town or country attached to that pin comes from where you tapped, not from where your phone actually is.
That is not just a privacy choice. It means the map is made of things you chose to keep, not a background log of everywhere you happened to carry your phone. A map made on purpose means more than one made automatically.
A year in

Long distance makes your shared places rare and scattered: an airport, one weekend in a city neither of you lives in, their kitchen on a visit home. Pin them as they happen and a year that felt thin from the inside turns out to have a map full of pins on it.

The map is included free, with everything else in KTL. Pins, notes and photos are visible only to the two of you, and nothing about the map is shared outside your world.
