Looking for a Cupla alternative? Here is the direct swap
Same basic idea: help two people who care about each other stay in sync. Different build, different price, and a different bet on who it is for.
First
What you are probably looking for.
Usually one of three things: the price is unclear, it feels built for couples who live together rather than apart, or you just want to see what else is out there before committing. All three are fair reasons, and the table below answers them directly.
Side by side
Feature by feature.
| KTL | Cupla | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free for both people, right now. No trial, no card. There is a public pricing page that says so. | No public pricing page on their site as of this writing. |
| What it is built around | A two-player game built entirely for two people who are not in the same place. | A shared calendar and organiser for couples generally, including couples living together. |
| Location tracking on the shared map | None. No GPS, ever. Fog only lifts where you deliberately tap to pin a memory. | Not something we could confirm either way from their public pages, so we will not guess. |
| Home-screen widgets | Not yet. Installs to your home screen as a full app instead. | Looks like yes, based on posts on their own site about widgets and dark mode. |
| Content you can browse before signing up | A small, focused site. | A very large one: roughly a hundred and forty indexed pages, including a parents and babysitting section. |
Everything above about Cupla comes from what is publicly listed on their own site. We have not used it ourselves, so where we do not know something, we say so rather than guess.
Built different
What KTL is built around instead.
Every mechanic in KTL is asynchronous by design. Boosts wait for them across time zones. Talking Hearts holds your answer until they reply. Streak freezes cover a bad week instead of punishing it. None of that is a bolt-on for long-distance couples: it is the whole reason the app exists.
Switching
What happens to nothing, because there is nothing to import.
There is no data migration, no cancelling a subscription first, no waiting for an export. One of you starts a world, sets your anniversary, and sends the other an invite code. That is the whole switch.
Questions
Before you switch.
Is there anything to import when I switch?
No. There is nothing to export from anywhere else and nothing to cancel first. One of you starts a world, the other joins with an invite code, and you are both in within about a minute.
Will my partner need to agree to switch too?
Yes, a world needs both of you. Send them the invite link or code and they join in seconds. Nothing happens until you have both joined.
What am I giving up by switching?
Possibly home-screen widgets, if that is something you rely on elsewhere, and a much larger blog if you were reading it. What you get instead is a product built specifically around living apart.
