Green flags in a long-distance relationship specifically

Most green-flag lists are generic. Here are the ones that only really show up, or only really matter, when you are not in the same place.

Most green-flag lists could apply to any relationship: kindness, honesty, showing up. All still true here, and none of them specific to distance. These are the ones that only really show up, or only really matter, once you are not in the same place.

They tell you when plans change, even small ones

In person, a changed plan is visible: you notice they left early, or the evening looks different than expected. Across distance, nothing is visible unless someone says it. A partner who volunteers a schedule change before you ask is doing quiet, deliberate work to keep you in the loop.

They do not treat a missed day as a verdict

A quiet Tuesday happens. A partner who reads one missed message as proof something is wrong is bringing anxiety into a gap that anxiety cannot actually see across. One who lets a quiet day be a quiet day, and checks in without panic, is showing you they trust the relationship more than they trust their worst assumption.

They make plans with an actual end date, even a rough one

Not every long-distance situation has a fixed end date, but a partner who keeps the conversation about when or how things change, rather than leaving it permanently open and unspoken, is treating the distance as something to move through rather than something to just endure indefinitely.

They ask before assuming

Distance removes most of the context you would otherwise pick up automatically: tone, body language, what kind of day it was. A partner who asks what you meant instead of assuming the worst reading is doing real work to make up for what the gap removes.

They still make the small effort, not just the big gestures

Anyone can show up for an anniversary. The green flag is the ordinary Tuesday: the unprompted photo, the boost with an actual reason attached, the small thing that did not need an occasion to justify it.
